2007-05-11 [moira hawthorne]: there is nothing wrong with kelp I have some I cook with in my kitchen.. the point was.. its not needed to make icecream
between real icecream and the worse artificial crap on the market there are a million variations...
anyways.. it been neat if someone made some homemade milk cream suger ice and a salad spinner icecream and entered it...
IT EVEN BE BETTER IF WE COULD ALL EAT SOME!
2007-05-13 [moonscale]: The best kind is just milk sugar and vanilla stirred while pouring liquid nitrogen over it. Its wonderfully creamy!
2007-05-13 [moira hawthorne]: liquid nitrogen! ... suresure... I got some of that...
2007-05-13 [Demon Epona]: YUM!
2007-05-16 [Asrun]: [smakeupfx]: Those books are absolutely incredible. How did you even start making them??
And [Ocean Soul], what type of stone do you use and what tools? I know nothing about 3D stuff. :(
[The Monochrome Rainbow]: That wall is crazy creepy!! XD
All of you have done such an amazing job.. I didn't know we had this many 3D artists... I'm totally astounded.
2007-05-16 [moonscale]: I think there should be more contests for 3-D art type stuff and in more specific categories as well. Or contests should just be made to allow for some 3-d elements. I think some do, though they don't come out and say it. It would be nice to see more of it displayed.
2007-05-16 [Lothuriel]: Exactly! I have been talking to other Council memebers in attempts of coming up with some more official contests similar to this one.
2007-05-16 [Ocean Soul]: [Asrun] - It's soapstone. There are different kinds of soapstone, varying from hard to really soft. If you start, you should go for a very soft stone - it's going to be super easy to work with (in fact, long fingernails are almost good enough as a working tool then ;))! Though the normal tools are small files, rasp files and small sharp trimming knives or box cutters. For the final toush you can use sandpaper and rough cloth :)
2007-05-17 [Asrun]: Ocean Soul : I figured it had to be soapstone. I can't believe how smooth the skin is on that one! Thanks for the tips, I don't even think there's a supplier of soapstone in my area.. O_o; Probably some in Toronto. Is it expensive? I basically have the tools here already.
2007-05-17 [Ocean Soul]: Toronto, ey :3 Well! I don't know really. Back in Germany I found soapstone in a general artistic material shop. In a dark corner, looking stinky and boring ;P I have to see if I find any here.. and tools.. gah, I have nothing T__T
2007-05-17 [smakeupfx]: Thanks [Asrun] :D I used different techniques for each one, from acid etching, leather pressing to sculpting in clay then silicone molds and casting in urathane plastics. just two more to do :D
2007-05-18 [Asrun]: Ocean: Where are you now? :O
smakeupfx: That's really awesome. :O I know none of those techniques, I'm strictly 2D... I can't visualize 3D.. :(
2007-05-18 [Ocean Soul]: Near Montréal =3
2007-05-18 [Ocean Soul]: Oh and about not being able to visualize 3D - no way! =3 You have to do it, try it, feeeeeel it, have fun with it, that's the whole point (for me anyway.. not for Tim I suppose, as he makes a living from it ;P)! And when you start off you shouldn't think "Oh no, I have no knowledge!" you should rather think "Who cares how cryptic the result is, this is my first attempt at this!" and have FUN! Most of all, it's always about that :) Working with stone for example is just really great because you get the chance to feel what you are doing and how hard you are working!
2007-05-18 [Cia_mar]: there came a point in my life as an artist that 2D just wasnt enough... i mean i would draw this great portrait and my hands would just itch to be able to wrap around and feel the features i was drawing.. and the first time i got into clay , i was in love!!! i wish it was more available for me to work with... but 3D is very satisfying!!!!
2007-05-18 [Asrun]: I had to do 3D stuff in my art fundamental course. I found it really frustrating
2007-05-18 [smakeupfx]: It just takes practice [Asrun], just like drawing did... if you spent as much time on 3d as you did learning 2D you'd be just as amazing with it i'm sure.
Oh yes Ocean, that is the whole point for me too... making money at it sometimes is good and all but it's all about the stuff! :D
2007-05-21 [Lothuriel]: Just a reminder--What is allowed: This contest is for all fantasy and science fiction based craft. This includes hand made statues, miniatures, sculpture, plushies and dolls, costumes, weapons...anyt
2007-05-31 [Artsieladie]: I really wanted to enter this one, but my daughter has her camera with her & I don't really know how to operate it anyway. So, I guess one could say I need both her & her camera. lol For a Girl Scout International Day Event, I made a bull costume (needed 2 Girl Scouts), the cape for the bullfighter, a skirt, vest & hat as a Spanish girl attire (Spain was the country being represented, as one can probably guess.). I've also made some puppets (including a Lamb Chop puppet, which I crocheted using no pattern) & ceramic objects. :P
2007-05-31 [smakeupfx]: many good projects need 2 girl scouts ;-)
